Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colorectal cancer screening, employing a minimally invasive approach to locate and analyse even small intestine growths (called polyps). Your colon must be devoid of faeces in order to be evaluated. As a result, colonoscopy preparation begins a few days before the surgery to assist prepare your gut. To prepare for your colonoscopy, begin lowering the quantity of fibre in your diet 2-3 days before the procedure. Consumption of entire grains, legumes, raw or dry fruit, nuts, and seeds should be limited.

The day before your procedure, you must follow a clear liquid diet. Clear broth, apple juice, sports drinks, popsicles, and coffee or tea without cream or milk is examples of such beverages. You’ll keep the clean diet going on the day of your procedure as well, usually halting liquids a couple of hours before your colonoscopy screening.

Preparation causes you to move your bowels a lot. You must remain near a toilet after the bowel preparation process has begun. Clear your calendar for this portion of your preparation, and if you have children or others who rely on you, make arrangements for someone else to take over your responsibilities.

You’ll be spending a lot of time on the toilet, so bring a laptop, some novels, or other easy distractions with you. It’s also a good idea to keep moist wipes on hand, as well as diaper cream or petroleum jelly to soothe your skin if it becomes inflamed.

Maintain your liquid diet by discontinuing liquids as recommended in your instruction packet. Wear comfortable clothing to your visit, and bring someone with you because you will not be able to drive yourself home after being sedated. Following your colonoscopy, you will be taken to the recovery area and observed for a brief while before being discharged.
